Goal 12: Ensure that all students, without consideration to race, income, age or community, gain the knowledge and life skills required to succeed in the global economy and society.
GOAL 13: Make certain that the quality of public education does not drastically vary depending on where one lives in the region.
INDICATOR: Differences in dropout rates and CRCT scores among all schools in the region
Why is this important?
Schools showing low student achievement scores and high dropout rates may reflect a disparity in the quality, effectiveness, funding and community support of public education across the region.
How are we doing?
The region-wide dropout rate in grades nine through 12 was 3.4 percent. The data shows a steady decrease in drop out rate from 2003-2006.
Atlanta City schools is the only system in the region that experienced an increase in high school drop out rate over the previous school year.
DeKalb and Clayton counties reported the most significant decrease in drop out rates from 2005 to 2006. Clayton's rate went from 4 percent to 1 percent while DeKalb's drop out rate was cut in half from 4.4 percent to 2.2 percent. In Douglas, Fayette and Fulton the drop out rate remained the same between 2005 and 2006 and it decreased slightly in the remaining seven public school systems in the region.
